Lakou Kev #1603: Kanaval

95% music from the 2016 Haitian Carnival. I’m trying to avoid the politics, but can you really in kanaval? Ever since Boukman Eksperyan’s “Kè’m pa sote,” roots music amplified the public sphere to keep those in power accountable.

Haitian carnival is a good temperature gauge (and also a safety valve) on where the country is at and, despite the election gridlock, the voice of the people always rises about the roar of the lambi and the declaration of the konèt.
